Owner Lost More Than A Playoff Series.
The WCHL Dropped The Hammer On Bakersfield Condors owner Jonathan Fleisig.
The West Coast Hockey
League announced today that Bakersfield
Condors owner Jonathan Fleisig has been fined. The amount of the fine was
undisclosed by the league office.
Following the Condors'
playoff elimination loss on Friday, April 19, 2002. A
highly charged Mr. Fleisig, made negative and derogatory comments regarding
the quality of the officiating during Game 4 of the Southern Division
playoff series versus the San Diego Gulls.
Two Condors goals were
disallowed and the Gulls won the fourth game of the best-of-five series
3-2.San Diego took the series three games to one, eliminating Bakersfield
from the Taylor Cup Championship Playoffs.
A protest of the game
was requested by Bakersfield, however the protest of a
game based upon an official's call is not admissible.
Although the gameresult
will stand, the videotape of the game will be reviewed in its entirety.
Statements are being collected from game personnel and a
determination will be made regarding the performance of the officiating
unit.
The WCHL respects the
opinion of Mr. Fleisig and his desire to support his
team. The Leaguet does not condone detrimental remarks of any kind. This
is the
first and only fine assessed against Fleisig since he joined the league
in
1997.
