Daigle's Shutouts
help Muskegon Fury win UHL's Colonial Cup.
05.17.04 - Lake St. Louis, MO - The Muskegon Fury were perfect. The team was completely undefeated in the playoffs, going 11-0 en route to their third Colonial Cup Championship in team history. The 1.000 postseason is a United Hockey League record.
Goaltender Sylvain Daigle registered three shutouts to earn playoff MVP honors.
The Fury defeated the Elmira Jackals in overtime 4-3 to complete their four-game sweep. A late three-goal rally by Elmira had the fury sweating, but right wing David Brisson knocked one in at 8:53 of the extra period to drive the nail of game 4 into Elmira's coffin.
All four games of the 2004 Colonial Cup Finals were decided by one goal.
The Fury have, as a team, qualified for post season action in every single one of their 12 UHL seasons. Alongside the an all-time UHL record for consecutive post season wins with 11, the fury, with the help of MVP Daigle, also pulled down a record for most postseason shutouts, with three. Muskegon swept both the Quad City Mallards (3-0) and Fort Wayne Komets (4-0), before finishing the perfect postseason against Elmira.
Daigle, a 27-year-old St. Hyacinthe, Quebec native, earned a league playoff-best 1.26 goals against average (GAA) and .959 save percentage (SPCT), alongside his 3 shutouts.
