Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs

Bugs Beat Bucks 4-2 In Game Two
The 2004 CHL President's Cup Finals series is now tied 1-1.

04.20.04 -- Laredo, Texas – The Laredo Bucks put on a furious charge in the third period, but came up short as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs rode a late goal to a 4-2 win in Game Two of the CHL President's Cup Finals.

Defenseman Jason Basile scored the game winner at 12:45 of the third period as the Mudbugs tied the best of seven series at 1-1.

Both team started off slow and neither was able to score in the first period. The Mudbugs' luck would soon change in the second stanza though.

With Bossier working on a minor power play chance, defenseman Craig Minard gloved down a clearing pass and cut to the high slot then gunned a wrist shot thru traffic at 6:05 for a 1-0 Mudbugs lead.

Later Bossier capitalized on a five-on-three power play chance as forward Chad Spurr scored with a shot from the right circle at 11:24 to make it 2-0.

The Bucks put on a furious charge in the third and it paid off.

At 5:32 forward James Hiebert got the Bucks on the scoreboard with a wrist shot from the left wing circle. It was the fifth of the playoffs for Hiebert.

Just 24 seconds later Bucks forward Adam Paiement tipped a shot from Aaron Starr by Mudbugs goalie Ken Carroll at 5:56 to tie the game. It was the fourth of the post season for Paiement and it electrified the crowd of 7,453 at the Laredo Entertainment Center.

The Mudbugs responded though late in the third period, as Laredo could not get the puck out of their own end.

Defenseman Jason Basile knocked down a clearing attempt then stick handled down the left side and in on Bucks goalie David Guerrera before tucking the puck into the net at 12:45 for a 3-2 Bossier lead.

The Bucks put pressure on Carroll, but couldn't get the equalizer and Mudbugs' forward Forbes MacPherson sealed the win with an empty netter at 19:54.

Carroll stopped 30 of 32 shots to improve to 7-3, while Guerrera allowed three goals on 31 shots to fall to 6-2 this postseason.

Game three is set for Thursday night in Bossier City. Games four and five are Saturday and Sunday night at the CenturyTel Center, while games six and seven will be back in Laredo, if necessary.
