center Donald MacLean named AHL player of the week
AHL assist leader keeps setting up the goals
SPRINGFIELD, MA -11.12.01 - The American Hockey League announced today that St. John's Maple Leafs center Donald MacLean has been named the AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 11, 2001. In two games last week, MacLean recorded two goals and five assists for seven points.
MacLean helped pace the Maple Leafs to a 5-3 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mile One Stadium on Thursday evening, recording four points on one goal and three assists. The following night, MacLean chipped in a goal and two assists in a 7-6 loss to the Pens, his fourth multiple-point game of the season. MacLean currently owns a share of the AHL lead with 14 assists, and leads the Maple Leafs with 18 points in 15 games.
A second-round choice of the Los Angeles Kings in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, MacLean has skated in 217 career matches in the AHL, recording 69 goals and 96 assists for 165 points. The native of Sydney, N.S., has appeared in 25 NHL games with Los Angeles and Toronto, notching five goals and three assists.
