Spiegel, Cataloged
There is a family story about my grandfather, George W. Spiegel playing with the farm club of the Chicago White Sox in Sioux City, Iowa and being hired as a hitter to go to the Sox the next spring which was probably 1905 or 1906. Before that could took place, George was involved with a run-away team of horses and was injured badly enough to impair his perfect eye coordination so he didn’t get to take advantage of the opportunity. Can anyone prove or disprove this story?
Trying to research an old team here in New Jersey. I found a piece of old letterhead and a matching envelope. The paper letterhead has a baseball player logo (20's-30's style) and a large bear.
The letterhead reads "Manahawkin Bears Baseball, Manahawkin N.J., S. Seaman Mgr., N. Corlies, Capt., C.E. Pharo, Booking Mgr., L. Cranmer Treas.".
The names are all local Manahwkin New Jersey family names.
My name is Denae Pachucki and I am currently trying to locate information about my great-grandfather John (Johnny) Ring. I have some old articles on him but I was hoping to get more information. I know he played for The Toronto Internationals, and the Atlantic Crackers.
I am not positive about the exact time frame but one article is from the Worcester Evening Gazette-Monday August 7, 1922, and the other is from the Boston Post-Tuesday February 12, 1924. I have attempted to do research on him online (via Google etc) but I haven't found much. I can't find anything about him on the ESPN website or via the Red Sox's major-minor league records etc.
I wanted to include some of the writings from the article that I found which might help you clarify the time period and possibly assist you with finding other info:
"Sparkling catches, some of which bordered on highway robbery, heady base-running, timely hitting, and a will to win-all of those requisites to a good ball player the Bawston midget displayed at Ponce de Leon last week in the absence of Camp Skinner from the line-up with a bruised leg, his subsequent return to the Red Sox, and the failure of Turner Barber to put in his appearance. The question now raised is: Should Otto Miller yank Ring even if Barber shows?
I am trying to locate a picture of the Mets baseball team, circa 1966-1967. I am particularily looking for a photgraph with the "batboy" Stephen W. Miller.
My father told me my grandfather played baseball in the early 1900's. Walter E. Kohl. I am not sure what team, or if it was little league or regular baseball.
I'm trying to research the first hockey team I ever saw play. The team was the Suncoast Suns and they played in St. Petersburg, Florida from 1971-73. First in the Eastern Hockey League and then a short lived member of the Southern Hockey League.
I am trying to locate the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs Minor League in particular who played in the early 1900's. I have 3 photos I am trying to identify the players and have got nowhere. They are "Mullin", "Bradley" and "Tim Jordan".
I am trying to locate any information about a minor league team that played in the late 1940s. The team was the Bloomingdale Troopers. The Troopers played out of Bloomingdale, New Jersey (NJ) from 1946 to 1948 in the old North Atlantic League. The Troopers had three players make it to the big leagues Jim Lemon, Carl "Butch" Sawatski, and Danny O'Connell. Sawatski and O'Connell are deceased but Lemon is still alive. I am even trying to contact Lemon for information. Please let me know if you can help me out with any kind of information pertaining to the Troopers.
I am looking for any information about a minor league team in the Chicago area in the 1920s. I have a picture of my uncle in a striped uniform with the initials K of P, or KOFP down the front, and a large G and O, or G and C over the left breast. His name was John Henry Smith. I know he was a catcher and also a scout. Any help would be appreciated.
Can you provide any direction or sources for looking up a semi-pro Baseball Player named Ernest Joseph St. Pierre? He was from the Syracuse, New York area, and later settled in Springfield Gardens, Queens.
He played for the New York League. He was also a member of the Burns Athletic Club (Syracuse, NY?) team.
It was said that on the next page (back) of the original printing of Casey At the Bat in the newspaper, an article about his team was published. It said that they had all been arrested for playing baseball on Sunday.
It was also said that in one game he played all nine positions.
He was my grandfather. He lived from approximately 1885-1968. Thanks for any help you can provide. I have hit a dead end.
Hello I'm looking for anything or anyone associated with the Western League Omaha Cardinals in 1952 and 1953. Scorecards, boxscores, yearbooks, team photos etc. I'm specifically looking for any information on Walter (Wolf) Montgomery a pitcher for that team, who is my big brother. You know you're old when you have a 75 year old [big] brother.
It was a Cardinal farm team, class A, I believe the years he was there. He also played at Albany Ga. in the Florida-Georgia league and St. Joseph, Mo. in what I think was the Western Association.
I'm trying to find information on my Dad who played for the Buffalo Bisons around 1941. He was a pitcher for a short time because he injured his shoulder and that was the end of his baseball career.
My dad's name was Stan Ward, and he became a basketball coach for Brown University for 15 years, so his love of sports continued. He passed away in 1986 and I would love to pass on his story to his grandson Nick who also has a love of sports. My Dad's real name was LeRoy S.Ward or sometimes he'd go by L. Stanley Ward, but he really went by Stan Ward, I just don't know what he went by when he was with the Bisons.
Cathy Brovia wrote MLN to thank us for the bio on her husband in the PCL Hall of Fame article from earlier in 2005. She writes: "I am still saving everything written about him to pass on down to his grandchildren...."
