iTeam Sports is a Boca Raton, Florida-based company that allows the average fan to buy ownership into a minor-league team for an investment of between $150 to $200.
“It gives fans a chance to have a say and feel like they are a part of the team,’’ says Steve Levenson, president of iTeam Sports. “And if you’re a part of the team, you’ll be more likely to attend games or buy merchandise in that team.’’
Fans who become “owners” gain merchandise and ticket discounts and online access to team officials and players. If you can’t believe why the manager sent the slowest player home from third on a pop to short, you can ask the skipper when he appears on a regular online chat.
