THE BATTLE OF THE DAWGS SEES
MEMPHIS ON TOP, 107-104


Memphis - 02/18/01 - The Tampa Bay ThunderDawgs dropped their sixth game in a row with a 107-104 overtime loss to the Memphis Houn'dawgs. Darryl Wilson scored 26 points and Horatio Webster added 23 for the Houn'dawgs who won the game after trailing 24-8 in the first quarter. Lonnie Harrell scored 21 points for Tampa Bay.

Tampa got off to a quick start, opening the game with a 24-8 spurt that was slowed down with a 9-4 run by the Houn'dawgs. Memphis then outscored the ThunderDawgs 23-16 in the second quarter to cut the lead to four at halftime, at 44-40. It would only get better for Memphis in the second half.

Trailing by eight, the Houn'dawgs went on a three-point shooting tear, and took the lead at 51-48. Another three-pointer by Horatio Webster gave the Houn'dawgs a 59-50 lead in the third quarter. The ThunderDawgs charged back, led by Lonnie Harrell, who scored ten points, and John Strickland who added nine points in the quarter. At the end of three quarters, the ThunderDawgs held a slim 71-68 lead.

The final frame saw a volley of baskets with each team matching each other at the other end. In the final minutes, with the Houn'dawgs down by three, Chris Garner hit a three pointer from the right wing and the game was tied at 93. The ThunderDawgs answered with a quick bucket by Kerry Thompson, then after getting the ball back, John Strickland was fouled with 30 seconds left and the ThunderDawgs up by two. Strickland missed both free throws. Bryan Christensen added two free throws with one second remaining, and the score was tied at 95.

In overtime, Christiansen hit two big three pointers, finishing with four for the game, as Memphis got the 107-104 win.
