Round One First Round

The Royals' first overall pick was RHP Luke Hochevar, drafted No. 40 out of Tennessee by the Dodgers last year. The Scott Boras client didn't sign, and has played this season for independent Fort Worth Cats. The first six players drafted were from college programs, and six of the first seven were pitchers. The round included 18 pitchers and seven athletic, multi-talented outfielders. The Dodgers used their two picks for pitchers; the financially strapped Nationals chose two high schoolers.
