“We’re always looking for new ideas, new ways to enhance the fans’ experience at our games,” said Dave Fendrick, General Manager of the Round Rock Express. “We’ve been fortunate to be able to do that each year. It keeps things fresh.”
After five attendance-record-shattering seasons in the Class AA Texas League, fans in Central Texas will be enjoying the some of the biggest upgrades in the six-season history of the team.
Perhaps the biggest change is that the ballpark has upgraded from the Class AA Texas League to the AAA Pacific Coast League. The Texas League team hasn't gone away, just relocated and changed names. The Ryans will open up a new operation near the family ranch in Corpus Christi, Texas. The AA team will be known as the "Hooks." Thanks to Nolan's connections, both the AA and AAA clubs will be affiliates of the Houston Astros.
Rock The House! The Porch added extra seats to the park to bring it up to AAA numbers. Note the rocking chairs available on the bottom floor on a first-come, first-served basis.
Physical plant upgrades to the Dell Diamond for 2005 include a new beach-volleyball area in right field, the new “party porch” near the left-field foul pole that brought seating up to AAA count-levels, upgrades of the skybox suites, and wireless Internet service throughout the stadium. The porch features a limited number of rocking chairs on the ground floor on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Dell Diamond is also one of the only multipurpose stadiums that features its own meeting and convention space with two story high floor-to-ceiling windows that front the ballpark.
