5. Rickwood Field

If you want to visit a park that oozes baseball history out of every seat and beam, Rickwood Field is a great choice.

How does a park that is 94 years old make this list?   Partly because it is 94 years old!

Rickwood claims to be the oldest ballpark in America. It is not an active day-to-day ballpark, although there are citizens of Birmingham who dream of the day that baseball might come back to the venerable park that was a staple of Birmingham society for decades.

Rickwood represents one of the true treasures on the entire ballpark landscape, as its renovations have been lovingly done to maintain the authenticity of the bygone days of this ballpark.

The Southern League Birmingham Barons, who left the park in 1988 to move into a shiny new stadium south of town, play a day game at Rickwood every year to raise money for the park's renovations.

This year's game is on Thursday, June 17 at 12:30 p.m.   If you're anywhere near Alabama, make every effort to attend the game at this extra-special place.
