For an evening the fields of Fenway open to minor leaguers for the Futures at Fenway exhibition games that give a preview of coming attractions to Boston fans. For fans of the Portland Sea Dogs, though it might be any other night.

BOSTON – They call it “Futures at Fenway”, but the truth be told, it could have been called “Hadlock Field: Past and Present”.

Not only was the full Portland Sea Dogs squad on the hallowed green of Fenway Park, but a whole host of former Dogs, all having moved up the ladder, and down I-95 to Pawtucket, were in there in full force too.

Both teams took part in annual event, in its fourth year, which gives fans, nearly 35,000 strong, who streamed to Fenway from all corners of New England, a chance to see the Red Sox minor leaguers playing on hallowed grass saturated with history, achievement, and expectations.

It gives those budding Sox hopefuls cause to remember why they are playing baseball in the first place.
