Outfielder Seth Smith has been riding an emotional roller-coaster since last September, when he became an unlikely hero during the Colorado Rockies' improbable run to the World Series.
Smith, used primarily as a pinch-hitter, went 8-for-14 in the regular and postseason combined.
He shined in the Rockies' dramatic 9-8 win in 13 innings over the San Diego Padres in National League Wild Card tiebreaker game at Coors Field. Smith cracked his first career triple with one out in the sixth inning and he then scored on Kaz Matsui's sacrifice fly to give the Rockies a 6-5 lead.
That effort was not an aberration either.
